New affordable homes for Somerby

An affordable homes scheme is under way in Somerby, fulfilling a pledge made to local residents and the parish council.

Contractor Waters Homes will be building seven homes, ranging from a two bedroom bungalow to a three bedroom shared ownership house, for Nottingham Community House Association.

The project was made possible thanks to funding contributions from Melton Council, Leicestershire County Council and the housing association.

County council leader David Parsons said “We want our villages to thrive, so we want to help families afford to live in them and that’s why I’m delighted by this partnership working.”

And Melton Council leader, Byron Rhodes added “We are determined to deliver affordable homes for our communities. This is a reward for many years of hard work and we must now aim to deliver more homes like this for other villages.”

The properties will be made available in 2013 to the local community.
